Jon's post about music.

Monday night at work, I heard "Ocean Spray" by the Manic Street Preachers. Seriously. At Meijer. Mind, the previous week I heard the Strokes, but that was a bit after 11, I don't think it was even 10 yet when the Manics were played. I also hear the same three Tears For Fears songs from time to time. Years ago, I once heard a song by Electronic. That's even better than hearing New Order (which I do now).

Tuesday night I went to the Loft to see In Civilian Clothing. thanks to [info]thermos for messaging me to remind me. more thanks to [info] for not responding sooner or else I might not have gone. I'm really glad I did. they played a new song, my final analysis of which is that it's "U2 meets Nada Surf". and at the end of the set the audience (well, this one woman anyway) wanted "ONE MORE". so we got [info]thermos playing two songs solo, then fronting the rest minus Clay in an old Roots of Resistance song (which he's carried long into his solo sets and recorded for the Halftones). THEN Clay came back and they did one final song...that they hadn't really done in...a while...and it showed...but it was fun.

I got there just in time to miss the first band, Mason Proper, but was told I'd like them, talked to one of them and he had me convinced as soon as he named "Blur, Radiohead and the Flaming Lips". thanks to a loan from Chris, I bought their CD. (had NO cash on me, save one dollar) this is only the second time I missed a band, was told I'd like them, bought the CD w/o hearing them and DID like them (the first was oh my god.).

more thanks to [info]thermos for today too. months ago he copied some CDs for me. one of which was Snow Patrol's "Final Straw". I listened a few times then but hadn't touched it in a while. I've probably played it close to a dozen full times in the past day. this is what's missing from most bands these days; SONGWRITING.

observe:
"please don't go crazy if I tell you the truth
no, you don't know what happened and you never will if
you don't listen to me while I talk to the wall
this blanket is freezing, it's been out in the hall
where you fed me for hours 'til I'm sure what I want
but darling I want the same thing that I wanted before
so sweetheart tell me what's up, I won't stop
no way..." - Snow Patrol "How To Be Dead"

I think that's it. I'll write other things later. possibly.
